While knitting up a swatch on the #5s, I realized that while the overall size doesn't matter as much, the ratio of stitches to rows does matter. To follow the charted pattern, I want the st and row count to match as nearly as possible.

So my answer was to go down a size, to the #4s. This knit up as 1.5" x 1.5" at 13 by 13; once again, I knit about 75% of the printed guage.
