I'm on the decrease section of the shawl, and it just takes too much room to lay it out and photograph very often. Instead, I'm contributing a photo of the next shadow shawl - of course, most of the fun is in picking out the yarn. This one is for my youngest sister. The handpaint is Schaefer Anne in a green, blue-green, and light brown, and the cone is Euroflax original in champagne (aka the lightest brown).
I've had several people ask about chosing yarn; start with either two fingering weights or one fingering weight and one mohair. Usually one yarn is varigated and one solid. The trick is to pick a solid color that is significantly lighter or darker than the varigated; people naturally want to pick up a color in the varigated, but that runs the risk of having the stripes blend together. Pick out one of the colors, and then go up or down several steps in shade. Picking out combos is fun; too bad there is no money in being a shadow shawl consultant.
