I'm trying for a felted bag pattern, that can be used as a knitting bag for a 1-2 skein project. It needs to accomodate DPNs, a couple skeins, patterns, notions, etc. Of course, it also has to be geeky! The design I'm trying, including "how to knit a circle" -
The circle I'm trying out: for stockinette, there should be 4 increases every round (really, 4.19, but who is counting?).
*inc* ; put on 4 DPNs (seam up 1st row)
or, more simply: increase at the end of every DPN.
This creates a nice spiral, a YO inc would be very decorative; I am doing kfb, since it will be felted. I've done 19 rows in blue, then a row in red to mark the transition to knitting straight. If I had thought of it earlier, I would have put another red row in earlier to get a better measurement of post-felting shrinkage on the circle.
I am not sure what to do with the top, I was considering either decreasing to form a neck or adding on a neck with ribbing later; this would contain yarn but make it difficult to get things in and out. Now I am thinking of a magnet clasp, which is easy to open, but is easily snapped shut to contain items.
And the geekiness part? A wraparound set of pockets for needles, notions, and patterns. With a cellular automaton fair isle pattern - hopefully based as closely to the Game of Life as possible.
